Testimonial for Nick 2 the +

Nick Seidel and I are both alumni from MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Texas. Although we were not friends then, we were acquaintances and I always admired the dedication he showed towards running and athletics. Fast forward twenty years later, I needed someone to help me on my new journey as an athlete, more specifically a triathlete, and I knew that Nick was the right person and coach to help me. A little bit of my background is necessary to understand the bigger picture.

I was always told in sports that I wasn't big enough or fast enough to hang with the big boys. I battled horrible allergies and asthma as a child/teen/young-adult that ended my enjoyment of playing soccer and other sports. In my early 20's I herniated a disc in my lower back and had horrible sciatica down my leg into my feet and toes. After a decade and a half of rehabbing it myself through physical therapy, inversion therapy, and yoga, I finally felt ready for a new challenge. I bought a single-speed racing bicycle and started pounding the pavement. Hundreds of miles and months later, I was ready to add another sport to my biking so I started running. It was at this time that I decided I was going to start competing in triathlons and I contacted Nick.

Nick was very encouraging and positive about my journey. I showed him journals of my biking and running that I had done on my own and he knew that I was serious about competing. He recommended that I start using a custom-tailored triathlon training software called TriDot. With the combination of Nick's decades of triathlon experience (both competing and producing races) and the science behind TriDot's training, I felt like I had everything I needed to succeed and compete.

The TriDot workouts take a while to get used to, especially coming from a place with little-to-no experience doing drills and heart-rate measured exercises. I really had no idea what I was getting into. I kept pushing and learning at a quick rate and in a few months felt pretty confident about what I was doing. Nick continued to coach and help me throughout the process. We went on several runs together and then he taught me how to properly swim as well. I went from not being able to complete 100 yards without stopping to eventually swimming miles in open-water environments with him in a period of 3 to 4 months.

Throughout my first season and my first five triathlons, Nick was present for support and guidance on every race day, a very nerve-wracking day for any new triathlete. I felt like I consistently had the support that I needed, and I think that's one of the most crucial jobs for a coach. I went from sitting on my couch to completing my first half-ironman distance triathlon (70.3 miles) in a matter of just a few months. I also have a second place age-group medal from the Windcrest Freshman Triathlon and I also qualified for the Age-Group National Championships in Omaha, Nebraska in my first few months of competing.

I have no doubt that having a great coach combined with the TriDot training software really did make a huge difference in my journey. Thank you, Coach Nick, for coaching and guiding me throughout my first season. I could not have done it without your expertise. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for Team Tri to the Plus!!!
