I have been told the story many times; about my Great Grandfather (Eopa) driving the whole family up River Road in the Studebaker or what ever the car was, back in the 1940&50s...
The Guadalupe and Comal River's have a massive amount of history in the Seidel Family history. That is why I call myself the ORR (Original River Rat) because my Eoma, Opa, Aunts and Dad were all River Rats before me...
So to say the least the River Road Run has a lot of sentimental meaning to me. It is for sure my favorite road to train and drive on. I never get tired of it, the beauty and energy from the river. We started the event back in 2005 or 04, and most years my son RIVER starts the race! We have had years of freezing weather, wet weather, great weather, unseasonably warm weather. Course record is held by Richard Powell Time-1:10:42 Pace-5:24
In early years we started at Camp Hueco Springs and it was only a 12 miler. This was because after 6 miles the road had cliffs and no shoulder, it would have been just too dangerous being and out and back. People kept asking for a half marathon so we finally came up with the idea to start earlier at River Road Ice House, which is a better party venue.
The past couple years have been more challenging to maintain the event due to life challenges. Now Partnering with Scallywompus Events, the party if for sure to grow. This year we plan to have more people, more vendors and more fun! Tell us what we can do to add to the party and your running experience. Come join the PARTY!
